India is a land of diversity. Diversity in language, culture, race, food, cloth and religion are the prominent features of India but a hellacious issue with India is diversity in Human Beings i.e. Touchables and Untouchables. Literally speaking, touchable means to those things which can be touched and Untouchables are those which can’t be touched. Would it not be a caustic, blistering and afflictive idea if I say that there are two types of Human Beings exist in the world i.e. touchable and untouchable? Difficult to believe but Yes, it is. Most parts of the world have had what Ward calls the lowly. Romans, Persians and Arabs had their slaves, the Spartans their helots, the British their Villeins, and the American their Negros. None of these can be said to have been called upon to face a fate which is worse than the fate pursue the untouchables. Slavery, Serfdom, Vassalage, Villeinage have all vanished but untouchability still exists and bids fair to last as long as Hinduism will last. The untouchables are people who are quarted, cooked and served by the Upper Class Hindus who have played their part as the chief chef of the kitchen. The untouchables are not merely despised but are denied all opportunities to rise. Yet, nobody seems to notice of the untouchables.
